lazy day

i never knew what love was until we arrived.
your head was in my lap.
you’d normally refuse to close your eyes in the middle of the day,
in fear that the day would go to waste.
but, somehow, someway,
maybe you were too tired,
or too relaxed.
your eyelids fluttered shut and your breathing evened out.
i looked down from my book and watched you rise and fall.
it was then i understood.
i wanted to capture this moment and store it in a picture frame.
to stay here as long as possible and cherish every second.
it is strange to realize you wish to age with someone.
to love someone so passionately that you caress every shade with your fingertips.
the unfound wonders of your soul that we’ve yet to discover.
i think i understand now.
a smile graced my face as my fingers continued to run through your hair.
i began to wonder what beauty would come with gray lines.
what the painter could possibly add to make you more than you are.
i want to be there to see you bloom, always.
