wedding night

once i’m out of sight, i sneak away.
i slip off my shoes, and tiptoe to the pavilion.
i can hear echoes of laughter
and talks of faded memories.
the lights twinkle around me.
cicadas chirp in the bushes.
there are no questions in my mind.
trains passing by one another.
i’m merely a guest.
tears start to dry faster than they can come.
this is no special night for me.
tonight i’m just another guest.
it’s another night i escaped the fray.
that’s okay.
this was neither my first or last wedding.
i’ll always attend.
i'll cheer for you.
i hope you enjoy these moments.
cherish those in attendance the rest of your life.
i also hope you have bigger nights than this.
i’ll simply hang around,
should you need me.
